What is your role with COAST?
I am a Secondary Constable with COAST.
Tell us about your career – how long you have been in your profession and/or with the London Police Service?
I have been with the LPS for 11 years and have taken on a variety of different positions during my time. Currently, I am assigned to the Community Foot Patrol Unit and the COAST team.
What interested you about working on the COAST team?
Prior to being a constable, I knew mental health calls were heavily intertwined into policing. I have seen this since I became a constable and the LPS has evolved since then. COAST is an innovative approach to assisting persons with mental health concerns and I am happy to be part of it.
What benefits do you hope this program will provide to the community and to vulnerable populations?
Due to lapses in our mental health care system, police have become the de facto first response for mental health due to the nature of our work. By teaming up with community health partners, I hope through this program we can better assist those with mental health concerns by supporting them and connecting them to community resources.
What do you do to support your own mental health and wellness?
In order to support my wellness, I am an active person and partake in physical activity on a regular basis by going to the gym and playing sports. Also, I always take the time to relax and spend time with my family and friends when possible.
