What is your role within COAST?
My role within COAST is a community partner, registered nurse.
Tell us about your career – how long you have been in your profession and/or with your current organization?
I started my career in mental health care at the former London Psychiatric Hospital, and became an employee of Joseph’s when they assumed governance of the facility in 2001. I have worked within multiple inpatient programs and in 2011, joined one of the organization’s Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) teams. During the same year, I also became part of the inpatient staff within the adult mental health care program at LHSC’s Victoria Hospital.
What interested you about working on the COAST team?
I enjoy learning new concepts and ideas when it comes to mental health so, for me, the COAST team is a gateway to developing partnerships and combining recourses which will allow me to further grow as a metal health professional.
What benefits do you hope this program will provide to the community and to vulnerable populations?
Throughout the years, I have witnessed the struggles of some of the most vulnerable people in our community. My hope is that COAST will benefit the community by reaching out, supporting individuals, assisting them in navigating the mental health care system and providing them with resources that will benefit them.
What do you do to support your own mental health and wellness?
Some of the things that I like to do to keep my mental health and wellness in good balance is to be with my family, participate in regular outdoor chores and listening to good music while I cook on the BBQ.
