Due to COVID-19, the Family Support Program is currently providing ONLINE support beginning with a 3-part foundational workshop called “Empowered Carers” followed by several shorter skill-based sessions that are meant to augment the foundation course. Monthly peer support groups are offered for family caregivers who are practicing these skills to come together and encourage one another and share their struggles and success.
Who We Serve:
Family Support is for anyone – friend, family member, partner, spouse, co-worker, boss or neighbor – who is concerned about the mental health of another community member. Both the person receiving family support and the individual they are concerned about must be over the age of 16 years. The Family Support program is available to all residents of London, Middlesex County and Elgin County.
What We Do:
The Family Support program provides family members, caregivers and friends with tools to help in the recovery process of a loved one. Participants will learn about mental illness, coping strategies and community support for both themselves and the individual who is struggling with their mental health. Services include group education sessions, peer support meetings, and skills coaching from a mental health professional.
All participants are required to take a full day foundation session called “Empowered Carers” before attending any other events. Skills are practiced at this workshop and then practiced again during a series of review and booster sessions.
